Despite the initial load which was a tad big, I love umeric's new site. Not just because of the captivating work, but because it was a great feat in portfolio based user-experience design. It's simple, stylish, and above all else - effective.

On the opening page a massive 'M' (for MTV) takes over the page screaming confidence in Umeric's work. This is where the beauty lies - Umeric's work is awesome enough that they don't need a swanky site to take focus away from their reel of work.

Keeping the interface clean and as you roll over the buttons, project images are shown on demand on the side with no preloading whatsoever.

Images are worth a thousand words but if you're curious, click on a button and more information on the project is displayed. And what's at the very bottom? A massive Play button, which on click, darkens the screen like a theatre with another brilliant piece of motion graphics smack-bang in the centre.

Another thing worth noting is that not only do the underlying grid lines form the rules of the page's design, but are a great aesthetic as well.

The touch interface has really taken off in the last few years. Apple's iPhone has led the way for portable devices; Nintendo got the ball rolling with it's portable gaming device the DS ; and Microsoft is, well, promising us something special with its interactive table thing.

But now it looks like HP has jumped off the starting block first with its consumer level touch screen desktop computer - the HP TouchSmart. It's basically like an iMac with a touch screen, and it's black - sexy black to be precise.

I've been using my iPhone more regularly these days as a portable TV, and one of the good shows I've stumbled across is The Gruen Transfer from the ABC. With a panel of industry experts, the show goes deep into TV ad campaigns and how they work.

It's a great insight into the broadcast advertising industry, and as a bonus, it's entertaining as well!

Find it on iTunes for quick and easy syncs to your iPod/iPhone or from the website here
